Course Exceptions/Substitutions

Course substitutions are used to adjust requirements on a student's degree audit.  They are used any time that the student's program varies from what is printed in the catalog.  These substitutions should be completed by the student's advisor and require signatures from the Chair and Dean of the department. The University Studies Course Exception form requires an additional signature from the University Studies office.  Once completed, these forms should be routed to the Office of the Registrar.

Undergraduate degree-seeking students may submit an Online Change of Major Form during the following time periods:

  • Changes Effective for Spring Semester: October 1st through the fifth day of classes of the Spring semester

The Online Change of Major Form is unavailable beginning the sixth day of classes (after the last day to add class or change sections) for the Fall and Spring semesters. Students may resume submitting any desired changes when the form reopens.

Before submitting the online change of major form:

  • It is recommended that students run a What-If RACR degree audit to determine how the change would impact their academic progress.

  • Students seeking to change their major/minor or add a second major/minor should contact the corresponding department to speak with an advisor for that program.

We use an online system to request a change of major or minor. The system requires the use of Google authentication using your murraystate.edu account.

If you encounter any issues with the system, please contact msu.racr@murraystate.edu.
